Mileage Tips

We're all feeling the crunch at the pump these days.  The FTC warns consumers about false claims.  Don't fall prey.  Here are some some legitimate tips you can trust to help you get the most out of every gallon.

1. Cut back on driving, consolidate trips, walk or bike for short trips, and travel off peak to avoid sitting in traffic.  Make a routing list to help make the most of each trip and avoid forgetting something in the middle.

2. If your car has a mpg computer, start paying attention to it under various driving conditions.  In general, avoiding jack rabbit starts and reducing your speed on the express way will go a long way toward increasing your gas mileage.  Aggressive driving can use up to 37% more fuel than moderate driving.  Going 55 mph can use up to 21% less than going 65-70 mph.  Drive at a steady pace or use a cruise control to save up to 14%.

3. We offer a Fuel / Air Injection Service to clean carbon and dirt build-ups in the fuel lines, designed to restore the air / fuel mixture back to factory specs, giving you the most from every drop of fuel.

4. If you need new tires, consider tires with a more narrow tread pattern.  Less rubber on the road creates less rolling resistance which can increase gas mileage.  Make sure your tires are properly inflated.  Low tire pressure creates additional rolling resistance and heat which can reduce gas mileage, generate heat and result in a blow out while driving.  Check the side wall on your tires for the proper inflation pressure, or your owners manual for the temperature adjusted pressure, and use an accurate tire pressure gauge when adjusting the pressure.  The gas mileage improvement can be as much as 10%.  Get a fresh alignment.  Pointing the tires in the right direction can decrease rolling resistance which can increase gas mileage.

5. Get a fresh tune-up, including a new air filter and a new fuel filter.  Not all filters are alike.  Getting a new clean filter designed for good air flow can increase gas milage.  Getting a fresh tune-up can ensure that the air / fuel mixture is optimum which can increase gas mileage upto 20%.  We offer Basic, BasicPlus, and Advanced Tune-ups.  Check your owners manual for manufacturer suggested intervals.

6. You don't need to let the engine warm up for very long any more.  Modern cars only need to be "warmed up" for about 30 seconds.  Then drive easy until the car reaches normal operating temperature.
